The manner in which he did it matters (I think I specified “peremptorily “, but if not I did mean too). And it was not replaced by subsequent negotiations. (That there was another administration in between that also failed to address the issue suggests the blame is at least somewhat bipartisan!) i know it’s almost trite to say an unserious president has led to a suboptimal situation, but it is also the case. The events of the past week are ultimately what several administrations had tried to avoid—and that suggests to me that there was a reason to believe that agreements regarding the nuclear program were desirable. But again: maybe Iran *is* too weak to respond! Yet it seems unlikely that this can be a one and done military response, and a greater entanglement in the region under increasingly unpropitious circumstances is hard to justify for US interests.
